Roy Hazelwood

BSU / NCAVC · BSU specialist in sexual-crime investigation

Hazelwood joined the BSU in 1978 and led FBI training concerning sexual crimes. His practitioner writing and two books with Stephen G. Michaud addressed behavior-oriented investigation, offender fantasy, sexual-offense analysis, linkage, and equivocal deaths. These works document an influential practitioner perspective rather than independently validating every classification or conclusion they contain.

Reported contribution: Later accounts associate Hazelwood with the Alaska behavioral consultation, including the offender’s low self-esteem, hunting experience, occupational success, and possible trophy keeping.

Match and outcome: Hansen shared several reported traits, but the public record is inconsistent about individual authorship. The profile supported focus; survivor, physical, firearms, and documentary evidence supported the case.
